PhD Position in Bone and Mineral Research




A 3-year PhD student position (30 h/week) is available from October 2026 in an Austrian Science Fund (FWF)-funded project in the laboratory of DDr. Reinhold G. Erben at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Osteology in Vienna, Austria.

What you can achieve with us

The project addresses the bone-kidney axis, employing a combination of in vivo studies using different transgenic mouse models with in vitro cell and tissue culture approaches to better understand the regulation of fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) secretion in bone and the pathophysiological sequelae of FGF23 excess in renal disease. 

What you bring to the role

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with medical, veterinary, or biology training. The PhD student will participate in the PhD program of the Medical University Vienna or of the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. We can offer an outstanding research environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure and excellent opportunities for international networking. Approaches used include animal studies, spatial transcriptomics and metabolomics, proteomics, ChIP-Seq, µ-CT, immunohistology, histomorphometry, cell culture, and tissue culture. Working language is English.

A gross monthly salary starting at EUR 3.876 (full-time). Depending on qualifications and experience, a higher salary is possible.
