Postdoctoral Position in Bone Research (all genders)
The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Osteology is a world leading institution in the investigation of skeletal tissues to improve our understanding of disease and treatment. Clinical needs are adressed by the interaction of basic scientists and clinical researchers.
Starting from June 2026 a 3-year postdoctoral position is available in an Austrian Science Fund (FWF)-funded project in the laboratory of DDr. Reinhold G. Erben at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Osteology in Vienna, Austria.

The project employs a novel stress-shielding model in sheep in combination with multi-omics and systems biology to dissect the role of mechanical loading in the regulation of cortical bone remodeling.
The postdoctoral scientist will be working in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, involving five centers in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, with state-of-the-art infrastructure and outstanding opportunities for international networking and career development. The animal experiment will be running at the AO Research Institute in Davos, Switzerland, and the successful candidate is expected to work in Davos for several months over the 3-year period.
What you bring to the role
Candidates should hold a DVM, MD, or PhD degree, and should have interest in the regulation of bone homeostasis and in spatial biology. Experience with surgical animal models is desirable. Approaches used include animal studies in sheep, CT and μ-CT imaging, cryohistology, histomorphometry, immunohistology, spatial transcriptomics, and spatial metabolomics. Working language is English.
